South Early Winters Spire – South Arete (II 5.5)

This was not a main objective for the weekend, but proved to be a good choice for a couple of novice trad climbers.  We climbed a couple of pitches from the ground before a long simulclimb to the summit on the full length of our 70m rope – not a good system.

 

Gear Notes: A rack of nuts and singles of cams .5-2 should be more than enough for this route.  Dial in your simulclimbing system and use it once you get through the chimney.
